Richmond is a small, rural community in western Massachusetts, abutting the New York State border and just south of the city of Pittsfield, where many of its residents work.

Richmond is 14 miles north of Great Barrington and 145 miles west of Boston. It is noted for its scenic beauty, with tree-lined roads and shadows cast across the many fields by the surrounding Berkshire hills.

The town is principally residential in nature, with only a handful of commercial enterprises and several orchards and farms. There are many part-time residents of Richmond from New York City or the Boston area involved in business or the arts who have chosen Richmond as their second homes for its beauty and privacy. The 1600 year round residents of Richmond express a strong sense of community.

On Thursday, February 19th the Town mailed the final real estate tax bill for the fiscal year that ended June 30 2008. With those issues resolved the town is seeking to return to a regular tax billing cycle. The final fiscal year 2008 bill is due by March 23, 2009. Payments can be sent to the Office of the Tax Collector, Town Hall, 1529 State Road, Richmond, 01254 or paid either in person at Town Hall or via the Town’s website by clicking on the “unipay online” button. Applications for abatements are due March 23, 2009 and must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office. Questions can be directed to the Tax Collector at (413) 698-3355.
